Disney just announced that they are going to soft open TRON Lightcycle Power Run! So beginning March 20 - April 2 if you have a ticket to Magic Kingdom you'll have the opportunity to ride TRON. I'm excited to see another coaster in Magic Kingdom. We have been able to witness the roller coaster from the beginning. The coaster is a semi-enclosed, launched motorbike on a steel track. Riders sit on their own Lightcycle a ride vehicle similar to the ride vehicles on Flight of Passage.

We chose to do our preview at night to see the canopy lit up. The canopy of lights is simply amazing! I will say when you're in the thick of the the ride queue it was a little too much. Since our little boy is about 1 in. too short we had to do a rider switch which put me in the queue and my partner out to wonder around the ride grounds. Yes, grounds this ride takes up a lot of space. It has its own bathrooms and snack cart. He was able to do the Lightning Lane and by pass the queue. I think I waited about 40 minutes total before I entered the Grid. The queue is really nothing special. There is a bit of a cool preshow but no cool interactive or show elements before you get to the loading platform. Right before you reach the loading area you enter into the locker room. If you have any bags or backpacks you will have to pick an open locker and place your belongings into it. I did not use this as I only had my phone on me. In not using the lockers gets you to the ride faster! While everyone else is fumbling with bags and lockers you can just walk right past them and enter the ride queue to the loading area. But if you don't have someone waiting outside you will be forced to get a locker to store your stuff. The ride vehicle does have a small space for a small personal item and that's it. That is where I placed my phone during the ride. The loading of the ride is pretty quick after the locker room. While waiting in this line I kept expecting them to call out for single riders but they never did. In my opinion this ride should have a single rider line, so we'll see if that happens. I had no problem loading onto the Lightcycle, but it is awkward to get on. If your are uncomfortable on the regular vehicle the ride does have accessible seating at the back of the ride.

The coaster is fun and fast! The ride itself is under 2 minutes. It is pretty intense as it launches you from 0-60 in mere seconds! The ride itself does feel faster than it really is because of the ride vehicles. The ride goes outside and then into the "Grid" honestly it is hard to focus on anything because it all happens so fast! We enjoyed it but it may be awhile until we ride again. When our little boy is tall enough and comfortable I'm excited to take him on TRON.
It will be operating on the virtual queue, so yes, you'll have to be up prior to 7:00 am to be able to secure you and your parties place in the virtual queue. An Individual Lighting Lane will be available too, but Disney has not dropped the cost for that yet. It will vary from day to day and surely go up during the busy season.
If you don't want to ride TRON it has a great area to view the ride. It also has a beautiful view of Cinderella's castle!

The walkway from Tommowland and Storybook Circus is now reopened, which also means the Walt Disney Railroad is back up and running! The train gives you a great view of TRON. The ride photo was not working when we rode but it was during the media preview. It has a great photo and ride video. If you purchase Genie Plus for the day or Individual Lighting Lane these photos will be available to download from the app. It's going to be interesting to see what TRON does for rope drop and wait times in Magic Kingdom. I'm so excited for this new addition to the park!
